Active Power Factor Correction

This feature is available on AC ballasts. Active Power Factor Correction will increase the power factor at the AC line input of the ballast to 0.99 nominal. Amtek lighting ballasts with this form of power factor correction are characterized by sinusoidal input currents with low harmonic content and low total harmonic distortion (THD) when operated on standard AC mains. Active Power Factor Correction is the most commonly used solution for applications that must meet regulatory requirements for the harmonic content of the ballast’s input current. Europe, China, and Japan have all adopted regulations governing the harmonic content of electrical currents on AC mains.
