Gapless Lamp Operation

AC ballasts powered via motor alternator systems in rail transit applications are often subjected to substantial “dips” in the AC line voltage due to gaps in the track. When subjected to this type of operating environment, typical AC ballasts designed to operate at ± 10% of the nominal supply voltage can cause the lamps to cycle On/Off or “flicker” during each gap, resulting in poor lamp life and increased stresses on the lighting ballast.
Amtek lighting ballasts which feature Gapless Lamp Operation are designed to operate over a very wide input voltage range, allowing the lamps to remain ionized during each gap. This maintains lamp life and reduces stress levels on the lighting ballast.
